As humans, we all have preferences – things we enjoy doing or have a natural inclination towards. But don’t be fooled into thinking that our patterns of behaviour are always serving us or that our preferences are the same as our strengths. It’s time to stop playing to your preferences and start playing to your strengths. We all have biases that prevent us from achieving the highest level of results, but now is the time to urgently move beyond them and create maximum value.
Want to start playing to you’re A-Game in life and in business? Here is the question to ask yourself to uncover when your bias and preferences may be holding you back:
What choice can I make and action can I take in this moment to create the greatest net value?
This central question helps you uncover when your bias may be showing up and allows you to make more objective decisions that lead to maximum value creation in your life and business.
For instance, if you are a salesperson and your natural preference is to focus on building relationships with clients. You may find yourself spending all your time socializing with clients and not enough time actually closing deals. Your bias may be preventing you from creating the greatest net value. By asking yourself what actions and decisions will create the greatest net value, you can shift your focus to activities that directly impact your bottom line.
Another example where preferences may be hindering your progress is in your fitness routine. If you’re trying to improve your fitness, but your natural preference is to stick to the same routine day in and day out, your bias may be preventing you from achieving maximum results. By reviewing your actions and seeing if preferences are hindering your performance you may realize that you need to mix up your workouts, try new exercises, or hire a personal trainer to push you beyond your comfort zone. Don’t let your bias and preferences hold you back from being the healthiest version of yourself.
So, how can you move beyond bias and start playing to you’re A-game? Here are some steps you can take:
Set Goals That Matter To You
Stop chasing goals that don’t align with what you greatly aspire to achieve. Set goals that allow you to leverage your strengths and achieve maximum results.
Take Action
Make a list of things you need to do differently to shift your thinking, choices, decisions and actions in order to achieve your goal.
Seek Feedback
Don’t assume you know everything about yourself. Seek feedback from others who have observed you in action and use it to improve your skills and abilities.
Embrace Discomfort
Don’t shy away from challenges or discomfort. Embrace them as opportunities to grow and develop new skills.
Hire an Expert Coach
Blind spots are just that, blind to you. Hire a coach that can help you uncover when your bias and preferences may be holding you back.
When you play to your A-game and leverage your strengths, you’ll experience a sense of fulfillment that comes from doing what you do best. You’ll feel more confident, energized, and engaged in your work and personal life. So don’t settle for anything less than your best. Embrace your strengths, push past your biases, and experience the satisfaction that comes from being the best version of yourself.
So, what are you waiting for? It is time to level up to your A-game and take action today. It’s as simple as setting goals that matter, embracing new ways of thinking and being curious about what playing you’re A-Game more often would look like in your life and business.
